Plan Ahead for Halloween 2012
The numbers have long since been in now, and all evidence seems to
point to the fact that Halloween 2011 was one of the most celebrated Halloweens
ever. Experts can’t say for sure why the
spooky, yet joyfully spirited holiday seems to be becoming more and more
popular, but it could certainly have a little something to do with the fact
that dressing
up in costume is just plain fun!
Unfortunately for costume enthusiasts, particularly some young ones, on
the East Coast 2011’s Halloween festivities were dampened.
While millions were busy enthusiastically finalizing their
trick-or-treating and Halloween night plans, snow arrived early in the form of
strong Northeaster. The storm hit just
hours before October 31st even though winter’s official start was still 50 full
days away. The New York Times called the
freak occurrence “The Grinch that Stole Halloween.” The storm brought down hundreds of trees and
power lines from New Jersey to Massachusetts, leaving about 1 million
households and town streets without power into the first week of November.
The storm and its aftermath posed such severe dangers that some
towns called off Halloween completely (some rescheduling for the following
week), prohibiting little ones with
their costumes already all ready to go
from going out and trick-or-treating.
Both parents and children alike expressed major disappointment at the
unusual turn of events. Many were reportedly so determined to enjoy the holiday
that they traveled to the town nearest to them where Halloween was not
municipally cancelled.
With Halloween right around the corner, make sure to

Halloween 2011 turned out to be widely celebrated across the country even despite the Northeaster and Halloween 2012 is shaping up to be bigger than ever. Let’s hope that the weather holds up for everyone next year…and while planning next year’s costume, also plan for alternative indoor locations to celebrate and trick-or-treat just in case it doesn’t!
