It is uncertain whether or not Ben
Stevens, original founder of the DFW Toy Show, knew when he founded the Dallas
Sci-Fi Expo and Comic Con in 1994 that it would grow to the enormous heights
that it has grown to by today.
Starting out as a modest
convention and meet and greet for fans of the comic book industry, Dallas Comic
Con (DCC) has just celebrated its most widely attended year in history. Bringing in several thousand fans during this
year’s 2012 event, the expo brought in thousands of attendees – 15,000 to be
exact. The 2012 numbers just about
doubled the event’s 2011 totals giving us yet another reason to believe
“everything is bigger in Texas.”
The stellar must-see celebrity
guest roster likely played a large part in drawing in droves of
cosplay, comic, sci-fi, and pop culture media
enthusiasts.
Who could miss an event
featuring two of the biggest names in comic and sci-fi – Stan Lee (Comic Book
Legend) and Patrick Stewart (the also legendary Captain Jean Luc Picard of Star
Trek)?
Other media guests included
Summer Glau (River from Firefly), James Marsters (Spike from Buffy the Vampire
Slayer), Laura Vandervoort (Supergirl from Smallville), and more.
Guests from the comic realm included Cully
Hamner (co-creator of RED with Warren Ellis), Doug Sneyd (Playboy cartoonist),
and George Perez (DC Superman artist) among others.
If you missed this year’s spring
event, you might want to consider attending one of the DCC’s fall 2012
happenings.
